Revolutions..
Don’t read unless you want to. Contains Spoilers, and maybe traces of peanuts.
Saw it tonight on IMAX. The screen/sound were absolutely awesome. The movie was not. Reloaded left things on a nice cliffhanger with all sorts of possible ways the story could spin off in the third movie. Throughout Revolutions, I was waiting for the twist.. the big surprise.. something totally unexpected. It never came. It was just scene after scene of predictable, banal action. Oh look, here’s Neo fighting Agent Smith. I wonder what will happen. Will he win? Will he die? Do we care? At no point in the movie do you seriously believe Neo or Zion are at great risk. Sure lots of people get killed in the Zion battle, but it goes pretty much as expected. You’re just waiting for the moment in each scene where you’ll see the “winning move” that allows the scene to end and move onto the next one.
They could have done SO much after Reloaded.. there were so many angles that could have been explored. Ideas that could have been expanded upon.. but they didn’t. This was the cop out Hollywood style movie that required absolutely no thought whatsoever. I went in with low expectations, and it was worse than I thought it would be.
Disappointing. Really disappointing.
